Sgian dubh is the Scottish Gaelic name for a small dagger that forms part of the traditional dress of the Scottish Highlands. According to Scottish tradition, the original Sgian Dubhs were worn under the shirt close to the armpit. Years later, Sgian Dubh was hidden in the vault. The name Sgian-Dubh comes from Scottish Gaelic. The main meaning of “Dubh” is “black”. The implied meaning is equivalent to “hidden”. “Sgian-Dubh” means “hidden knife”. Hidden in shoes or socks, the most skilled hand to use.
